Mazda Parts Knowledge Center

Start here: This is every guide we have written about maintaining and repairing a Mazda, organized by system. If you know what you need, jump to the section below. If you are not sure your car takes the part you are looking at, run your VIN through the Mazda VIN decoder first. Mazda splits part numbers mid-model-year more often than most brands, and the VIN is the only thing that settles it.

Mazda CX-5 parked outside a Mazda dealership

We started writing these guides because of the phone calls. Somebody would call about a cabin air filter for a 2019 CX-5 and we would spend four minutes on the same explanation we had given eleven times that week. So we wrote it down. Then we wrote down the next one. Everything on this page is the answer a Mazda parts pro would give you across the counter, with the actual part numbers included instead of “bring the car in and we’ll look.”

Before you buy: how to choose the right part

Four questions come up before almost every purchase, so we gave each one its own page.

Oil, filters and fluids

Filters are the highest-volume thing we ship, and they are also where the most confusion lives. People mix up the two air filters constantly, and they buy oil filters by engine displacement when Mazda splits them by engine family.

Brakes

Brake pads are the one category where we will actively argue with a customer who wants to save twenty dollars. Genuine Mazda pads and shoes carry a lifetime limited warranty when a Mazda dealer installs them, which changes the math completely.

Batteries and electrical

Wipers, lighting and visibility

Accessories, roof racks and towing

This is the fun half of the catalog. It is also where fitment mistakes are most expensive, because crossbars and hitches are model-and-year specific and nobody wants to ship a roof rack back.

  • Mazda paint codes and touch-up paint – find your three-character code, then the exact touch-up bottle part number for it. Covers Soul Red Crystal 46V, Machine Gray 46G, Polymetal Gray 47C, Jet Black 41W and the rest of the current palette.
  • Genuine Mazda body parts after a collision – why insurers push aftermarket sheet metal, what you are entitled to ask for, and how OEM panels affect fit and resale.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the right Mazda part number for my car?

Decode your VIN first, then match the model year and engine to the part number in the relevant guide above. Mazda splits part numbers mid-model-year and by trim more often than most manufacturers, so a year-and-model lookup alone will occasionally hand you the wrong part. Our Mazda VIN decoder is the shortcut, and if anything is ambiguous, call us and we will look it up against Mazda’s catalog.

Are the parts on this site genuine Mazda parts?

Yes. Everything we sell is Genuine Mazda, ordered through Mazda’s own supply chain and shipped from Seacoast Mazda, an authorized Mazda dealer in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We discount off Mazda MSRP, typically up to 33%, but the part in the box is the same part the factory used.

Can I return a Mazda part if I order the wrong one?

Within 30 days, yes, as long as it has not been installed and it is still resaleable in the original Mazda packaging. There is a 20% restocking fee, which is why we would rather you call us for two minutes before ordering something expensive. Full terms are on our returns policy.

Which of these guides should I read first?

If you are new to buying your own parts, start with engine air filter vs. cabin air filter and OEM vs. aftermarket Mazda parts. Those two answer most of what people call us about.

Do you add new guides?

Regularly. If there is a Mazda part or job you want written up and we have not covered it, tell us and we will put it on the list. Several of these pages exist because a customer asked.
